I had every intention of starting with our little Carter Hank’s birth story. But have decided to fast forward a bit and give an update of now with his birth story coming later this week. Today marks him being two weeks old. It feels like he’s been a part of our family forever and yet the whirlwind of his birth makes me pinch myself that he is already here (he was born a few weeks earlier than planned).
The adjustment from five to SIX kids has been for the most part relatively smooth. My biggest prayer was that Cash would feel loved as we added a new little one to the mix. For the past two years he has been my “baby” and I’m not ashamed to say been treated as such ;). The Lord has answered my prayer and then some. I don’t think I’ve ever had a little one attach to a new baby quite like Cash has to Carter. He is SMITTEN with him. Cash wants to know where the baby is at every minute of the day. He loves to “pep him” (pet him), kiss him, remind all of US to be “gentle” with the baby, hold him, cuddle him… you name it and he is all over it with “his baby”. It has been the sweetest thing to watch unfold.
The other kids have been so sweet during the transition. The line to hold Carter is always long and eager. I am so thankful for all the willing and helping hands!
My mom was here the first week. What an incredible blessing she was to us. She cleaned, cooked, loved on, served, etc. from sun up until sun down. Because I didn’t have to lift a finger I was able to focus on resting and nursing. Travis and I have said to each other several times that it was such an enjoyable first week thanks to her. Truly one of the best weeks of my life. Because Carter’s birth was such a whirlwind (story to come) coming home to everything taken care of was such a blessing.
We’re now wrapping up our first week with my mom gone and Travis back to work. My personality is one that jumps back into “normal” and being busy. I learned the first day that wasn’t the wisest choice and paid for it the day after (so. sore). Turns out my body isn’t quite the spring chicken it used to be and it’s going to take a bit more time to recover. The rest of the week was spent truly resting, loving on babies, nursing and doing the bare minimum with housework/meals. I am so thankful for Travis and all that he has done for our family when he gets home. He is so good to me!
There have been a few things that I have loved the past few weeks while I adjust postpartum and wanted to share for other mamas to be!
+ These leggings have been the BEST support for my stomach while recovering. They are high-waisted, a thicker (but not hot) material and have held everything “in” where it needs to be. The first week home I wore them every single day. HIGHLY recommend!
+ I recently discovered the shop Carly Jean Los Angeles and purchased a few pieces to wear postpartum. I remember after having the first five kids I always struggled finding clothes to wear after baby that made me feel somewhat back to “normal”. Carly Jean is actually an amazing shop ran by a mama of four little ones. The clothes are well made, flattering on all body types and cute! This is not a paid paragraph.. just truly a rave review of a shop I’ve grown to love! A few of my favorite pieces that I’ve been wearing are the Raw Hemmed Denim (they fit like amazing leggings and are high waisted to help hold in your baby tummy), all of the basic v-neck tunics and the Ellison tops (it has an amazing sweatshirt material that lays super flattering).
+ While my mom was here we got hooked on “The Great British Baking Show” on Netflix. If you’re wanting a show to watch while feeding baby late at night or while you’re sitting/recovering, this has quickly turned into a favorite over here! Even the kids have loved watching it with me 🙂
+ My skincare routine has been lacking the past few weeks. I’ve been so sleepy that I just want to crawl right into bed at night. I’ve been keeping it pretty simple but have been loving my results! I use the Redefine Cleansing Mask (in the morning I just use it as a quick face wash and at night as a 2 minute mask) and follow it up with the Hydration Serum. My skin has been loving this combo lately! If you click on those links, the prices listed are our retail prices. If you’re wanting to get 10% off and Free Shipping shoot me an email and I’ll get you all set up with a discount (and free products!). My email is firstname.lastname@example.org
+ The last thing that I’ve been loving are these Good Foods Guacamole cups from Costco. They are SO fresh and delicious! I’ve been ravenous from nursing lately and they have been hitting the spot!
I’ll be back later this week with Carter Hank’s birth story as well as a post for what I like to bring to the hospital! Hope your week has been a great one so far! xoxo- Ashley
