Our kitchen is my favorite area of our home. It is tiny and fits the Living Small series perfectly! While it is small in dimensions, it serves it’s purpose well! One of my favorite parts of our kitchen is the deep cupboards. Would you believe that I still have some empty cupboard space?!
Before we moved back into the blue cottage, I knew that I needed to down-size majorly in the kitchen department. I knew I wouldn’t need six 9×13 pans, four large mixing bowls, three muffin tins, etc.
I got rid of the majority of my kitchen stuff and kept my favorite pieces AND my nicest pots and pans. Everything else was donated, sold or thrown away. I also whittled down my dinner plates, cups and silverware. I knew I wouldn’t need 30 plates. Because realistically I wouldn’t be serving 30 people in my tiny home. And if I WERE to be hosting 30 people, we would more than likely be in the backyard enjoying BBQ with paper plates and plastic utensils.

Beautiful! I love the open shelving:)
Such a pretty space!! I love all of the small details you have that make the space your own without feeling cluttered. Calm, relaxing, cheerful, warm, and inviting! =)
Oh Ashley, I love this! You're so right on not needing a bazillion kitchen items (or a bazillion anything, for that matter), and I love how you've kept just what you need/your favorites AND have them on display….they serve a purpose and look pretty when they aren't in use! I love how fresh everything looks, yet still so cozy and inviting. Now drive up to Bowie and work your magic on my little house 😉
Yay! My favorite!
Love your perfect, tiny kitchen! Adorable!
kitchens are my favorite room in a home! thanks again for doing this post series! appreciate your openness and honesty! one question: since storage space is limited, I would guess that pantry space is also limited? does meal planning help with that? thanks for your beautiful blog posts!
Ashley, again I love this! Will you come decorate my house, pretty please? 🙂
This question is more related to bedrooms than kitchen, but do you store any hand-me-downs for your children or do you get rid of them and just buy new when your kids go up a size/season, ect?
loooove your kitchen. i think mine might actually be even tinier, so i know what you mean! you should add your space to my fun link up of bloggers homes – http://www.jadeoak.com/2013/07/design-in-your-home-link-up.html (if you want!)

what a pretty space! what color are the walls? and where did you find that cute round rug? thanks for sharing!
That checkered floor really adds to the room doesn't it?…
I was wondering what you used for your chalkboard paint?
This is just a precious space! I adore the tile floors and all the details you incorporated. I couldn't agree more about not needing all the extra in the kitchen… and now I'm inspired to pair down what I've got. I mean, there is no way I would need 6 mixing bowls on any given day! Goodwill, here I come…
What a perfect little kitchen – I love it and also love that you clearly point out no need for mulitples of everything. So easy to fall into the more is better trap
Love, love it! My husband and I have lived in a basement apartment for 5 1/2 of the 6 years we've been married. Your Living Small posts have been encouraging knowing that there are others that make it work in small spaces 🙂 I am excited to soon be moving somewhere that at least has a full kitchen- but like you, I realize "stuff" is certainly not what's truly important. Thanks for sharing your home with us!
Ashley, I am just LOVING this series!!! I'm in a season of desiring so much less stuff but it can be so overwhelming it's hard to even start sometimes. I'm so inspired and love your sweet little home 🙂 Thanks for helping to change the perspective that more is more.
Your home is precious! We have a mutual friend that told me I would love your blog and this series and she was right. I have really enjoyed reading the living small posts, in fact, I wrote a little post myself about two years ago titled "living small"! I think we are part of a growing movement of finding true joy in relationships and not stuff! You have inspired me to continue the pursuit of less! Here is my blog/living small post… http://simplehomemanaging.blogspot.com/2011/05/living-small.html
Is the black wall a chalk wall? Love the kitchen and series!
I want to sell our big house and move into a small house and be all on top of each other but have our finances freed up to bless more with our money & time. That is my dream.
I love your kitchen! Our kitchen is very small as well and after nearly 3 years I am still trying to make it work. I just love, love those shelves, which is ironic since I bought L-brackets a couple days ago to hang rustic wooden shelves.
LOVE this…mostly I love all the details!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE that you are doing this series! My home is tiny too and have always had so much trouble keeping "things" under control. Thank you for the inspiration!
I have been so in love with your chalkboard wall that I did my own version this weekend! It's almost ready!
I'm forever inspired by you lovely fabric projects… using fabric glue. They are adorable and oh so creative. You inspired me to hem a darling, but much too long, set of curtains I picked up for next to nothing at IKEA. It worked perfectly! I have been endeavoring to reduce the "stuff" in our lives for some time now. Your family is proof that living with less means more time for each other. At the end of the day, a few treasured objects are enough to create beautiful surroundings.
OH my! your kitchen might be the sweetest space ive ever seen! I LOVE LOVE LOVE every single thing about it!! amazing..
It's darling! I love it! 🙂
Looooove your style! So cute!
Wauw very nice!
I love it!
