sweet and tangy meatloaf
This is one of my family’s favorite meals!  And one of the only meals that EVERYONE will eat and happily.  I know that meatloaf can get a bit of a bad rap. Because well… meatloaf.  BUT, this recipe is so incredibly delicious!  The brown sugar and ketchup give it just the right amount of sweetness.  And the vinegar in the sauce gives it the perfect amount of tang.   My favorite way to serve it is with mashed potatoes and green beans.

I love to use onions in my meatloaf AND my sauce.  But if you’re not big on onions, you can easily omit those!  Also- I have written the recipe to fit the size of our family (5 kids and 2 adults).  If you’re cooking for a smaller group you can just cut it in half.

2 lbs ground beef (you can substitute for ground turkey if you prefer)
1 cup quick oats
1/4 onion minced
2 eggs
1 Tablespoon garlic powder
2 teaspoons salt

2 cups ketchup
1/4 onion minced
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup vinegar


Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a large bowl combine your meatloaf ingredients.
Form meat into a loaf.
Place in a 9×13 baking dish.
In a separate dish combine your glaze ingredients.
Pour over the meatloaf.
Put it in the oven and bake for around 50 minutes.

* You can also make meatballs with this sauce! Just prepare the meat like you would for the meatloaf.  Then form into balls instead of a loaf.  Place your meatballs into the 9×13 and bake for around 30 minutes.

  1. Made this for dinner tonight, using ground beef instead b/c it was all I had around. It was so good! My son told me it was the best meatloaf ever. Thank you! Can’t wait to try it with turkey next time. As a note, if anyone uses ground beef, cook it longer…. Around an hour.

  2. This sounds great Ashley! It is only Lar and me anymore but I would make this amount. I love to slice it cold the next day and put it on a sandwich. That kind of spazzes Lar out but oh well……. Give it a try. It is delicious that way also.
    and yes…..I am a unapologetic meat loaf lover.
